Department of Philology and literary criticism
- Il Center of Comparative Studies I-Deug Sug promotes research, conferences and publications of comparative literature with a special focus in Latin digital philology (ALIM digital library: alim.unisi.it, from 2009; Corpus rhythmorum musicum digital edition corimu.unisi.it, 2007 and on; lexicon.unisi.it). It is specialized in Latin and French documents on East Asia history (Koreanische Literatur und Kultur 1995-2004, series “Hagiographica Coreana”, Pacini) and in European Literature in the Latin Middle Ages (series “Scrittori latini dell’Europa medievale”, Pacini Editore, 2009 ss.). It publishes, since 2005, the journal “Semicerchio. Rivista di poesia comparata”, founded in 1986.

SAILab (Siena Artificial Intelligence Lab). The focus of SAILab’s research group is on machine learning. In the last few years, they’ve been mainly involved in the conception of new theories of learning in structured domains and in their applications to pattern recognition and mining the web. They’re also interested in facing popular puzzles using problem solving and, especially, in cracking crosswords. They strongly believe in the importance of technological transfer, but you can find us involved also in discussions on novel models of computation and in their relationships with human brain.
QuestIT srl is a company founded in 2007 as a spin-off of the research group in Artificial Intelligence of the Department of Information Engineering of Siena. In collaboration with Expert System S.p.A., QuestIT carries out R & D in the semantic field, with a particular focus on the Question Answering.QuestIT and Expert System are the owners of Algernon technology [Cogito Answers]. Today the QuestIT activities involving other IT fields: Mobile applications, intelligent sensors, machine learning and management software.
